Vintage Paree for Me

Not so long ago I was walking past one of my local thrift shops on a sunny afternoon. I wasn't intending to go inside until I spotted two fab framed vintage Parisian prints bathed in sunlight in one of the thrift shop's windows...

I went inside to enquire about the prints. The shop assistant told me she was just about to get them out of the sun. Lucky for me she hadn't done so before I came along. I made the prints mine. And because I bought them both I got them for an extra nice price. They are watercolour prints by Herbelot, framed behind glass with black painted wooden frames. I believe they are both from the 50's. Titles are handwritten in pencil below the artwork.

I've never been to Paris but would love to go - I'd definately visit the places depicted in these prints. The first print you see here titled "Paris, Les Bouquinistes quai Montebello" is my favourite of the two. It depicts the book stalls along the Seine River which are still there today and have been there since the mid 1500's. Notre Dame Cathedral is in the background.

"Paris, le Pantheon et le quartier Latin" depicts an area of the Latin Quarter with the Pantheon in the background.

I hadn't heard of Herbelot until I found these prints. I've found a few tidbits of information online about Herbelot. It seems that not much is known about him or her. Apparently he or she created watercolour Parisian scenes between 1940-1960, and prints were sold mainly to tourists during these times.

Snazziness for Shoes

Shoes can be given a new look in an instant by simply adding shoe clips to them. Karen Robertson of ShoeClips.Biz was inspired to design a snazzy range of shoe clips after she received a box of vintage shoe clips as a gift.

At ShoeClips.Biz, there are many styles to choose from. You'll find rhinestones, flowers, bows and more, as well as unused original shoe clips that were previously stored in warehouses. Each clip is metal, hinged and detachable from shoes. Adhesive padding is included with each pair of clips and can be applied (if need be) to the underside of clips where they touch your feet.

Napkins Upcycled into Bedroom Decor & Giveaway Winner

A glimpse of my bedroom. The throw cushion covers on my bed are made (by Mum) from vintage 50's Wilendur "Princess Rose" cotton napkins. They feature my favourite rose print ever, the most resplendent I've seen, and are still ablaze with colour after all these years. Synonymous with quality table and kitchen linens and boldly coloured prints, Wilendur/Wilendure was produced from 1938-1984 in the USA. In 1958 Wilendur changed to Wilendure.

Can you see the book? It's a vintage book from 1947, one of my favourite classic novels, and with its charmingly quaint cover a favourite of mine to display also. I'll reveal the book in my next post...

The lucky winner of the giveaway sponsored by Allies Adornments is Peggy AplSEEDS! Congratulations Peggy AplSEEDS! Thank you to Allies Adornments for sponsoring the giveaway and thank you to all entrants!

For the next giveaway I'm hosting here the prize is a romantic upcycled display piece that's also useful. I'm not telling what it is...

Vintage Button Treasure & Giveaway Winner

I have a jar of buttons that I have had since my childhood. These are some of my favourite buttons from that jar. I went through a stage as a child where I was regularly delving for treasure in Mum's big tins of old and new buttons. When I would find buttons that took my fancy, Mum let me keep them, and in my jar they would go.

Recently I've become interested in vintage buttons again and most of all I love to see them reused and repurposed. Speaking of reusing and repurposing vintage buttons...next week I will be hosting a giveaway for someone who makes lovely jewellery from vintage button treasure...stay tuned my hearties! :)
